Slowly catching up...

This summer I have read about eighteen or so books.  You may be thinking: that's great!  You may also be wondering where the reviews are.  No matter how hectic life gets, you should never stop doing something you love.  Books have always been a refuge for me, an exciting place where anything can happen, adventures can be had, and time can be forgotten.  Sometimes people stop reading because they "don't have time."  While I didn't write reviews for a while, I still read.  Sometimes I only read at night before bed, but there was always some sort of story going on in my head at some point in the day (even during those days when it was my own, that still counts!)

It's amazing what ten or fifteen minutes of respite can give you.  When reading, even if just for that brief period at night before you go to sleep, you get to enter a whole new world.  And entering a whole new world is really magic, isn't it?

Plethora of Posts to Come Soon

I know I haven't been really reliable this summer for getting my reviews up quickly and efficiently.  I have been preoccupied with many things, not least of which being a giant pirate party.  As always, I have kept reading, and I do intend to get reviews up sooner than later.

The books I review will not necessarily be in the order of which they were read.  Some books have made a big impact and I cannot wait to share them with you, while some others were read while traveling, and a couple were not the best.  I do hope that I don't overwhelm any of you, especially any of you who may feel a sense of déjà vu from when I waited until finishing The Dresden Files book series.

I would love to hear from any and all of you!  I love book suggestions, and would gladly talk about any books I've read in the past.  As always, remember, no spoilers!  The magic and joy of discovery can be easily lost if you spill all of the secrets within the depths of a book.  If there is a book that you find absolutely horrible, and suggest that someone does not read it, you should still ask first before spilling.  No two people are alike, and what you abhor they may adore.

Review of Jim Butcher's Summer Knight

Summer Knight
The Dresden Files: Book 4
By Jim Butcher

Star Rating:
Date/Time Started: November 11, 2014 3:55pm
Date/Time Finished: November 24, 2014 4:40pm

Genre: Adult Fantasy
Number of Pages: 388

Synopsis:
Private detective/wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is suckered into tangling in the affairs of Faerie, where the fate of the entire world-and his soul- are at stake.

Review:
Not only do we get to learn more of Dresden's past as a certain lady from his youth resurfaces, but we get to see a whole new side and understanding of the relationship between Dresden and his godmother.  While Dresden manages to get twisted into affairs between the fairies he comes to realize that he must look to the resources he has, trust, and stop pushing all of the strong people in his life away.  Although Dresden thought he was helping people by pushing them away, he realizes that everyone needs help at times, and there is nothing wrong with asking for or accepting help.

This book is the fourth in a series, which means, of course, that you really ought to go out, get, and read the first three!  Every book Butcher has written in this series features detailed characterization, great interlocking plots, and all in a fast paced style that shows the reader what is going on and draws the reader in without being overly detailed or caught in minute points.

Author Information:
The Dresden Files are the first books that Jim Butcher managed to get published.  He is also the author of the Codex Alera, and a new steampunk series, Cinder spires.  He is a gamer, including tabletop, video games, as well as LARP.  He still lives in his hometown, Independence, Missouri.
